[SVG Open] book your hotel !
Posted by stelt apropos on Thu Jun 9th, 2005 at 08:50:34 BST
It's my favorite because it's very near, between trees, affordable and might even turn out to be a (#)SVG-only place for a few days :-)

deadlines are a funny thing... about SVG Open abstracts
Posted by stelt apropos on Sun Mar 20th, 2005 at 20:32:34 BST
Deadlines are a funny thing: well over half of the abstracts came in between early morning day before the deadline and end of the day of the deadline. Were you people trying to make me nervous :-)? Also we received questions about the exact time: is it 0:00h or 24:00? and what timezone?
After the deadline a few more came in and i got promised a couple more.
Of course people who submitted before the deadline get a definite advantage, but you can always submit. With time passing (i've seen the first papers accepted) the chance of fitting your presentation/course/panel in the programme will get slimmer.
About "time passing": Chris Peto made this nice SVG Open 2005 countdown and a SMIL-enhanced version too. thanks Chris.
my SVG-lyrics printed in magazine
Posted by stelt apropos on Wed Mar 16th, 2005 at 13:12:53 BST
I was just notified that, in the September 2004 edition of the German magazine "Internet Professionell",
the alternative SVG lyrics on Metallica's "Nothing else matter" were printed:
"Eine Hymne auf SVG war längst überfällig.
In den Yahoo-Groups hat ein
treuer Anhänger des Vektorgrafikformats einen alternativen Text zu
Metallicas Hit gepostet.
Wow, stellen Sie sich mal die schweren
Gitarren und James Hetfields Stimme dazu vor."
Cool :-)
I also did alternative SVG-lyrics on Dire Straits' "Money for nothing", but that was not so good.
SVG Open 2005 animated banner
Posted by stelt apropos on Mon Feb 7th, 2005 at 04:39:20 BST
and not much later Patrick Stuit (a friend of mine) had created it:

All the frames in this animated GIF makes the file a LOT bigger than it would have been in SVG of course, cause with some declarative animation you don't have to declare (=limit) the frame-rate up front, shadows is just some filters, text is just text.
Maybe a good comparison for a later diary entry...

new SVG Open logo (SVG as a cooperation tool)
Posted by stelt apropos on Fri Feb 4th, 2005 at 10:56:18 BST

The result of cooperation between a programmer (working with the code) and a designer (working mainly with WYSIWYG graphical tools).
SVG improves communication.
Nobody in their right mind wants to edit graphics with a text editor..

my SVG links, art and artikel
Posted by stelt apropos on Thu Jan 6th, 2005 at 05:52:38 BST
links:
svg.pagina.nl is a collection of SVG links, a daughter of the startpagina.nl portal, the most visited dutch website (the svg page is 99% english though). As the freshly new editor I gave it an update. If something's missing, just let me know.
art:
most of you might have seen it by now, though some failed watching because of errors at my hosting company, but this techy tried some art: animated photo mixture I'll move it to svgopen.org soon, so IE-users can also see it.
artikel:
sorry, that's dutch. I wrote a 2-page article on SVG for openmagazine.nl which means a couple of thousand dutch readers.
