Internet Explorer no longer #1 in marketshare

Posted by stelt apropos on Fri Jul 11th, 2008 at 12:45:00 BST

At least if you look at the running 2008 total of visitor statistics for the SVG link resource. Both IE and Mozilla are now at 44%, where IE is shrinking and Mozilla is growing.

“behind the scenes in the picture” is the english version of what was submitted to livre.nl and slightly edited and published there as “SVG: een cross-platforme veelkunner op de achtergrond”

UPDATE: German version now also available and Polish version in the works.

'patching' IE to do SVG, who helps Batik to mentor a Summer-of-code project?

Posted by stelt apropos on Fri Mar 7th, 2008 at 13:02:36 BST

SVG is hot, IE8 is not, use the buzz. Some people really do use IE, often forced, but do. ASV slowly sinks, Renesis probably rises soon, Java (as a fallback) is however often already installed.

To benefit from that i wrote something on the Batik mailinglist. The reply was basically: Good for a GSOC project, but who has time to mentor?

Do you?

quickly fix this super easy bug for the greater SVG good

Posted by stelt apropos on Fri Mar 7th, 2008 at 12:34:04 BST

If you have ever fixed any Mozilla bug before, Firefox bug 215889 will probably only take you minutes to fix. Please do quickly (within days) so it can be part of Firefox3. Make people go "SVG files? huh?, what's that?" and "SVG files! cool!".

Flash and the iPhone: Highly Improbable and Equally Illogical ends with Hm, "HTML+AJAX+CSS+SVG." "HACS." I like that acronym. Web 2.1, anybody? underscoring the story about the SVG train

creating a super video about SVG ?

Posted by stelt apropos on Wed Mar 5th, 2008 at 10:33:59 BST

Wouldn't it be great if there would be a video like this with loads of SVG it it?

I think so.

Maybe a collection of videos with a bit or loads of SVG in it could help, add to it!

please vote for bug: Firefox doesn't do SVG text selection yet

Posted by stelt apropos on Sun Mar 2nd, 2008 at 10:41:38 BST

I guess i use Opera more than i think, as i never knew that Firefox doesn't do SVG text selection. Which is rather a problem from a accessibility/semantics point of view. Please vote for the bug

SVG Viewer Matrix quite popular

Posted by stelt apropos on Fri Feb 15th, 2008 at 14:19:01 BST

Keeping an eye on stats on svg.org shows that the Viewer Matrix recently has become quite popular, even more than the main page of the SVG Wiki.
Take a look at it and fill in anything you find missing

Internet Explorer below 50%, always, and dropping ...

Posted by stelt apropos on Fri Oct 26th, 2007 at 13:33:10 BST

At my SVG links resource http://svg.startpagina.nl Internet Explorer use is always below 50%. Quite often it's not even the first browser, but behind Firefox. Opera that keeps improving its already good SVG support is small, but growing and looking forward to having SVG support added to Safari in only hours is improving its numbers as well.

My SVG page traffic stats. And yours?

Posted by stelt apropos on Thu Feb 1st, 2007 at 03:02:01 BST

http://svg.startpagina.nl keeps growing; Jan. 2007:
Unique visitors ever:     1.547
Unique visitors month:     1.579
Unique visitors day:     1.667
Total visits:          1.810

Hhmm. So only 32 visitors from before visited this month? Hard to believe. Ah well, it's not meant to build a fanbase, it's meant to show SVG is everywhere.

brainstorming about an improved(?) SVG.org (IMHO)

First: overall i like svg.org quite a bit, some things annoy me though, and i think it could be more lively, therefore my ideas for the LazyWeb:

tell people to make their SVG properly identify itself !!

Posted by stelt apropos on Sat Dec 30th, 2006 at 03:43:33 BST

Developments in SVG are going strong. A lot of content out there is however old (read "in error, but worked back in the ASV-only era"), or the server it comes from has old settings. This is not good for SVG.

I've made a good start in no longer accepting this. I've checked all my links on http://svg.startpagina.nl for errors in MIME-type, namespaces and encoding, reported all errors and did the same for at least an order of magnitude more links that i Googled. Next time i'll delete links that have this wrong.

Now it's YOUR turn.
