locateandtrade.com - Back to basics, SVG mapping

Posted by jacobus apropos on Wed Feb 28th, 2007 at 11:23:29 BST

http://www.locateandtrade.com uses SVG to display a lightweight map of South Africa for Opera and Mozilla users.

The http://www.locateandtrade.com team has developed and redeveloped their mapping engine 5 times. Finally they found the simplest and fastest mapping navigation possible for map based trading and advertising.

For now IE users will have to be content with a basic VML version, while the SVG version will soon provide users with a totally new user experience. The SVG version is smaller and faster than it's VML stable mate, and the team hopes that this will introduce more users to Opera and Mozilla.

Companies looking to represent locateandtrade.com in their country can fill in the online support or user feedback forms.

There´s a nice map implemented, unfortunately there are only four resorts listed, but the idea is well implemented and the SVG map is build much faster in the firefox than in the IE...

I think their use of SVG is great, I tend to use firefox mainly and it works well for me.
Seems really quite fast too, for exmaple compared to something like multimap.... Thank you, Drew

Now that really does look good. I also prefer Firefox as my default browser, but must admit it did look like a good mapping example.

Great implementation. Imagine seeing this type of mapping navigation all over the web - definitely time to ditch IE! Mark - London Hypnosis guy
