First Alpha Pre-Release of Firefox 3 Introduces Host of New SVG Fetaures

Although nightly builds have been, and continue to be, available on a daily basis for a long time, Mozilla has just released Firefox 3 Alpha 1, codename Gran Paradiso, using the new Gecko 1.9 layout engine. Highlights from the list of improvements are: a DOM inspector giving you more power in multi-namespace coding conditions, and of course many SVG improvements: better specification compliance all around, improved speed in using group opacity and rendering in general, new support for the <mask>, <pattern>, <foreignObject> and a few filter elements (<feComponentTransfer>, <feGaussianBlur>, <feMerge>, <feMorphology>, <feOffset>), more DOM functions for text handling, Cairo improvements and integration on Mac OS X as well as high-quality vector printing in a majority of cases. The release of FIrefox 3 is expected this coming spring.

I myself still use firefox 1.5, and if I could would continue with 1.0, 2.0 does not support all my plugins...and 3.0 I could only guess...what are other people's thoughts.

I have tested the gran paradiso downloaded from here but in my opinion the opera 9 is the better choice...

Firefox 1.5 is a perfect browser and more. I need not more features and there are plugins enough. We have it seen with Netscape: v4.xx was the latest version i have used. Shop

I will test it. Lion

There is still a lot more of improvement to be made. However,  FireFox is accelerating these days.

Yes, have you been using the latest SVN on FF3? There seems to be a lot of support and effort into SVG support in the next release. Although FF3 alpha is nowhere NEAR ready for primetime, it is indeed promising. Dave Davis
