Adobe SVG Viewer to Be Discontinued

Posted by hritcu apropos SVG on the Web on Fri Nov 10th, 2006 at 17:45:53 BST

Adobe has decided to discontinue support for Adobe SVG Viewer starting from January 1, 2008 (End of Life FAQ). They even plan to remove Adobe SVG Viewer from the Adobe.com download area on January 1, 2009, and redistribution by third parties is not allowed by the licence. This development is not surprising after their acquisition of Macromedia, and there is hope that by the time Adobe SVG Viewer is discontinued there will be mature alternatives for all the Internet Explorer users.

UPDATE: Due to pressure from the SVG community, Adobe have agreed to extend the distribution of their SVG Viewer indefinitely, even though there will not be any new version developed.

Yeaghh, I agree it is not suprising, but moves like this are bad for consumers, and it is really a thorn  in my side when I can not go back into retora software mode sometimes. I'm sure they think this is for thebest and will be making improvements in other areas, but I have found myself wanting my OLD verison of musicmatch jukebox, and get no longer get it.. I'm sure yahooo thinks it's new version is so much better, but I for one prefer the older version, and it can't be found anywhere. So I hate it when big companies pull some crap like this. So, what was that about IE? Oh, and yeah - this is not ideal for consumers, but I can see why they would do it.
