creating a super video about SVG ?

Posted by stelt apropos on Wed Mar 5th, 2008 at 10:33:59 BST

Wouldn't it be great if there would be a video like this with loads of SVG it it?

I think so.

Maybe a collection of videos with a bit or loads of SVG in it could help, add to it!

Why I think SVG rocks!

Posted by grantg apropos on Fri Feb 29th, 2008 at 15:37:56 BST

I began SVG work a couple of months ago and have been an active member of the SVG site and wiki for a few months, eagerly watching over while keeping my voice quiet. I have noticed that, through the use of search engine optimization, the site I primarily used my oh-so-terrible SVG skills on has really started to pick up - traffic has increased ten-fold, orders are now coming through for garden furniture for this years' garden season, especially Alexander Rose garden furniture and nova garden furniture. Time will be running short for the next couple of months as it runs into the busy gardening season, so rest assured I won't be gone for too long and will keep dropping in whenever I get a spare 5 minutes. Thanks guys.

Unneeded SVG Decimal Precision

Posted by schiav21st apropos on Thu Feb 28th, 2008 at 10:44:26 BST

Hello all,

I'm new to the community and still fairly new to SVG's in general.  Right now I am team lead on a senior design project for my college that involves non-compression methods of optimizing SVG's.  We've had some encouraging results, but sadly I have hit a snag.

I need to know EXACTLY how decimal places are used to allow SVG's to scale so that I might figure out how a method of automatically determining the mininum precision needed to render an SVG at a given resolution.  Knowing this, I can then hack off the extra decimal places and save some space.

Any help or guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.  I've done a lot of research so far but its been mostly for nought.

Placing Text Dynamically in SVG

Posted by Bharatc apropos on Thu Feb 21st, 2008 at 04:20:46 BST

Hi I am working on a concept mapping project using svg images for displaying the concept map i have 2 problems and am not able to continue with the project
  1. Placing text dynamically in svg : i have managed to place the objects(rectangles) using loops , but in order to place the text on theese objects both the location of the text and the text inself needs to be dynamic. Can this be done
  2. I need to attach a hyper link with each txt that i place on the rectangle.
All the text that I came across are placed statically using predefined coordinates.I want a way of using variables to define the coordinates to place this text.

What a week!

Posted by Nick apropos on Mon Feb 18th, 2008 at 11:45:27 BST

Well, been very busy this week at the flower shop what with valentines day and all that.

Very very busy week with an increase of roughly 40% in the amount of people who wanted to send flowers.

Now that its all over I have been able to finally get a look at inkscape. I had a bit of a play around with it at the weekend and it looks like an excellent tool. I'll certainly try to use that before photoshop to try and get used to how it all works.

Thats all for now, back to work ;-)

SVG Viewer Matrix quite popular

Posted by stelt apropos on Fri Feb 15th, 2008 at 14:19:01 BST

Keeping an eye on stats on svg.org shows that the Viewer Matrix recently has become quite popular, even more than the main page of the SVG Wiki.
Take a look at it and fill in anything you find missing

SVG Open 2008

Posted by elizabethmei apropos on Tue Feb 12th, 2008 at 20:07:15 BST

This is the first I noticed that the SVG Open 2008 details are now online.. registration begins in a day or two!

It seems I am working these days more with derivatives of SVG (Microsoft), rather than SVG itself. Do you think that would be a good paper or discussion - e.g. the family tree of SVG and related standards? XML, VML, etc. For instance, I don't see that covered on the wiki.

Anyway, hope to see everyone there. I'm going to try to write some SVG poetry to share in the evenings!

Elizabeth

PhotoImpact

Posted by windychat apropos on Tue Feb 12th, 2008 at 19:39:32 BST

I have been enjoying playing with the SVG Export  feature in Corel's PhotoImpact (formerly Ulead).

I am using it to design graphics for a MapPoint 2009 CD and insert.

Has anyone else used it? How well would you say it's support of SVG is?

Thanks,
Eric
